Nickie began her journey with BeFit just five days after her 50th birthday.
At the time, she describes herself as very overweight and medically classified as morbidly obese — a label she openly says she hates. Although she hadn’t yet developed serious health issues, she knew entering her fifties carrying that much weight was a risk she didn’t want to keep taking.
Nickie decided it was time to make a real, lasting change.
The Challenge
Before starting personal training with Ben at BeFit, Nickie had already tried to lose weight several times.
She had joined slimming programmes twice in the past and initially had success:
- The first time she lost 3.5 stone
- The second time she lost 2 stone
But each time the same pattern followed — the weight slowly came back, and often even more than before.
After years of this cycle, Nickie knew that dieting alone wasn’t the solution.
She needed a complete lifestyle change, not just another short-term diet.
Why She Nearly Didn’t Start
Starting a fitness journey at 50 can feel intimidating, especially when you have a significant amount of weight to lose.
Nickie wasn’t just thinking about losing weight — she wanted to build a healthier future and avoid potential health issues down the road.
She also knew it wouldn’t happen without support, accountability, and expert guidance.
The Turning Point
Nickie began training with Ben twice a week, focusing on building strength and improving her overall fitness.
At the same time, she made important changes to her nutrition. With Ben’s guidance, she:
- Cut out bread
- Reduced refined sugar significantly
- Focused on healthy, balanced eating
But what made the biggest difference was how exercise changed her mindset.
Instead of dieting, Nickie started to see her lifestyle as simply living and eating healthily — not following a restrictive plan.
The gym sessions also helped reshape her body through targeted strength training, giving her the confidence to begin doing cardio workouts on her own.
The Results
Nickie’s transformation has been nothing short of life-changing.
Since starting her journey, she has achieved:
Nearly 6.5 stone lost
Major improvements in body shape and strength
Completely transformed eating habits
Built a consistent fitness routine
Started running 5K events
Here’s what Nickie had to say:
“I’ve lost just under 6.5 stone and I’m so pleased with my results — but I’m not done yet. I’m now running 5K events, which I would never have believed possible. What I’ve been through in the last nine months has been life-changing.”
What This Means for You
Nickie’s story shows that it’s never too late to completely change your health and fitness.
You don’t have to rely on endless diets or quick fixes. With the right support, consistent training, and sustainable habits, you can build a lifestyle that delivers long-term results.
And sometimes, you might even discover you’re capable of things you never imagined — like running a 5K.
