The Gym Is Not The Place To Burn Calories
So, the gym. The place where people gather to sweat, grunt, and occasionally question their life choices. But let's get one thing straight - the gym is NOT the place to go to burn calories. No, my friend, it's so much more than that.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all saying don't go/come to the gym. What I'm saying is that if weight loss is your goal, don't rely on working out to get you into that all important calorie deficit.
Sure, some PTs will tell you that the gym is solely for torching those pesky calories. But here's a fun fact: you actually burn around 60% of your daily calories while doing absolutely nothing. That's right - you're a calorie-burning machine even in your sleep (or during Netflix marathons).
So why bother with the gym at all? Well, it's where you go to get stronger, fitter, and feel more confident. It's where you sculpt those biceps and tighten those glutes (because who doesn't want a perky booty?) Because we all secretly crave that self-assured strut in front of the mirror.
The gym actually only accounts for around 10% of your overall calorie burn. And that's if you're able to go every day. If you're only able to make it every other day, that 10% drops to 5%. But it's about so much more than just numbers on a treadmill screen. Use the gym to become stronger, offset future injuries, clear your head, release tension and feel better about yourself.
So next time someone tells you that the gym is only for burning calories, kindly remind them that it’s also a place for personal growth, self-discovery...and maybe even some shameless mirror flexing. Becasue let's be honest, we all want to look good naked
